FSSAI registration is a compulsory compliance that is used to ensure the safety of food products and it is essentially the Food Safety Certificate issued by Food Authority in India. This governing body, also known as the Indian Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI), marks businesses as per the rules of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. FSSAI license is mandatory before starting any food business. All manufacturers, businessmen, restaurants who are involved in food business must obtain a 14-digit registration or license number which should be printed on food packages.
This step has been taken by the government’s food licensing and registration system to ensure that the food products undergo some quality checks, by issuing food service licenses to reduce the incidence of adulteration, substandard products and manufacturers’ accountability Better possible. FSSAI online registration is done through Crontax (FSSAI License Consultant). FSSAI online registration is done legally for legal and central level. For the state, Fssai registration is done through offline mode.

Guidelines on FSSAI License Number
The 14-digit number provides information about the manufacturer’s license or registration details and the manufacturing state which will be called as fssai no.
The Brand owner shall display the FSSAI logo and his license number on the label of food package.
In case of imported food products, the importer shall display FSSAI logo and license number along with the name and address of importer on a sticker to be affixed before customs clearance.
Types of FSSAI License
Businesses engaged in food activities are required to apply for food licence of different types based on turnover, scale of business and the type of activity. Such businesses must apply for either of the licenses (central or state) or simple registration. The criteria specified in rules are as follows:
FSSAI Basic registration
This is required for small business or startups which have annual turnover below Rs.12 lakhs. Basic registration can be upgraded to state license as your sales graph increases.
FSSAI State license
This license is applicable to mid-sized companies which have annual turnover between Rs.12-20 crores.
FSSAI Central license
This license is applicable typically on large business with annual turnover above Rs.20 crores. It is also required in cases where you need to supply at the government offices or import / export food products.
Steps for getting the FSSAI license
One can file the FSSAI application directly with the government. The process is long and requires 60 days to get completed :
Step 1 –
Fill FSSAI licensing registration form A on FSSAI website and make the payment for FSSAI application at the FBO nearby your locality.
Step 2 –
Once the payment has been confirmed in your FSSAI account, you will have to file a Form B with the government. There are many announcements and resolutions that need to be filed with your application. As such, board resolution, owner self-declaration. These announcements should ideally be prepared by a company secretary.
Step 3 –
You will then need to follow up with the Government Department for updates on your application. The government can send back your application for editing – if you fail to respond with 15 days of application, your application will be rejected.
Step 4 –
Government Department will take 45-60 working days to fully review and approve your application. In addition, you can rent Crontax to obtain a FSSAI license for you. In some cases, the customer may need to visit the food department or to pay an extra fee to the inspector.
The FSSAI license can be renewed 30 days before the original license expires. You need to provide your current license number to the Crontax team. We apply/ Form A and Form B will be re-filed for renewal of license. It usually takes 30-40 for renewal of the license. The government fee for issuing new licences is the same for renewal.
